Ok, what this means is that the software can't change the permissions of the files through ftp, so you either set them manually after install or maybe you won't need to do this, for example your site is on a windows system! Anyway, after that message the installl should copy the files! Ovidiu

I understand what your saying but it kind of does not make sense in that how can I set the permissios after the intall if the install is never complete? This is on a Linux server not a windows one. Actually what hapened after the install is that it deleted all my Joomla install and made no attempt to copy anything from what I can see.

Hey there! Have you tried the JoomlaStart tool by using the direct mode install? Not sure why you get the JoomlaDesktop error, but it's related most probably from the ftp server ! There the only thing you need to make sure is that the directory you are in is writeable! Ovidiu

Yes I have tried the direct mode with no sucess either. I can not say its not the FTP server but here is the thing. I can use a normal FTP program and uplade without any problems to the server. So if it is the FTP server do you have any ideas what it could be? As I have also mentioned several times over the directory is writable.
