/directory/ is the subfolder i installed to.

all files copied successfully. no option in the desktop installer to use ftp or not.

folders all owned by psacln and even set to 777! and still can't run any files, including install.php!

so i can't actually setup Joomla with the web installer, have to do it all manually.

safe-mode is OFF.

anyone know how to fix this "apparent" permission problem?

Hmm, did you set 777 upon folder directory/ ? Try to set it to 755 and see if you can access it! Regards, Ovidiu

of course i tried that, nothing works.

755, 777, 766, etc, etc...

set 777 for the entire folder, even tried setting all sub folders and files to 777 recursively......nada!

Well i am pretty sure it's not from the desktop installer, all it does it uploads the files using ftp, it doesn't change any permissions except for thore required for Joomla! Could you post us a url here?

Regards...

i'd rather pm or something more private, don't want to give out access to my installation to everybody!

and i think you're right.

i used my dreamweaver to create a test folder and a test.html and cannot access that directory either!

i'll ask my host what is going on.

thanks for the prompt replies!

actually, i just checked again, and no problem accessing my test html file.

email me: averan at passionspire.com replace "at" with "@"

and i'll send you the link. i'd rather risk getting spammed than have people jumping into my installation files.
