Okay, I know must be a stupid question, but here it is.

Is this an email service that any user who signs up on your site can have access to? Such as yahoo has there free email and google has gmail? I am wanting to provide a free email service with my portal that I am launching. Am I on the right path with this component?

And if so how do I get the users to sync up with it?

Thanks,
William

Hi there! This is not a free email service software, however you could setup one with this! Roundcube is an IMAP client, so it logins a user if they have a valid IMAP account on your mail server!

So in order to provide a service based on this you would need a second script that will automatically create an IMAP account for your user on signup, and then they can simply use those login details to login to Roundcube!

Hope it helps! Ovidiu

Next question.

How would I do this? I am a designer not a coder and have no idea how to accomplish this. Do you know what script I would use? My host is dreamhost and they do not have a remote access to be able to do this. Or so they say. I would really love to get this setup. Is this something you can help me with? I am sure others would want to setup the same thing. Probably another avenue of income for you. I mean joomlacloner is awesome and some have tried to duplicate it, but none would as well as it does.

Would we need to take an open source email program and make a component out of it? I found this one doing a search:
http://www.zimbra.com/products/

and is available at SourceForge here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/zimbra/

Take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks a ton,
William

All IMAP or pop email based clients will require a new script, server related, to automatically create those specific email accounts, and further more IMAP accounts can't be created through the php library, so a simple php script won't help!
Most probably you will also need a dedicated server to be able to make these changes, unless you have a very nice host

Again, if it were that simple this feature would exist through php...

Hope it helps! Ovidiu

Also, in addition to your Zimbra comment, that's something else, beside the web software they provide, they also provide the server base for email processing; so with it you can in my opinion achieve your goals; but again this is a more complex solution!

So if you can install the Zimbra mail server on your own hosting server, then for sure you can make a component from their software or simply use it as it is, and provide automatic account creation!

I have been doing a lot of research on this. I did find another open source program that is supposed to be database driven. Have you heard of CryptoMail? They have quite a bit of information on their site it is at cryptomail.org. I can install on my host, but I cannot access their email server the way I need too.

I have a separate install on the host right now for my livechat - HelpCenterLive. Granted it is using php but atleast I can install what I need on there server.

I also have 2 servers just up and running and not really being used. They have 4 gig mem, Dual Zeon Processors, and about 600 gig avaiable on scsi 10K cheetah drives. Do you think I could use this maybe as the email server? I really wouldn't want to has the internet connection would get bogged down here.

I am willing to pay if you can help. I don't have that much as I am doing this all on my own now. I trust your help as I have in the past.

I am just trying to get this up and searching and searching for an answer.

Thanks,
