From the log file, it seems that the script is unable to connect to the google mail server , i presume you are using their smtp?

I would advise checking with your host if their firewall blocks outgoing smtp connections from inside the server

I Have the same problem, wen i create an account in cpanel then login from RoundCube Joomla, when i try to send an email, error message "An error occured while savings" come up.
to solve this problem, when you login from RoundCube Joomla, look at the folder, if you seen just inbox folder (no draft, sent folder), "An error occured while savings" always come up, try to login in cpanel RoundCube, that automatically create a folder sent, draft, etc..logout from cpanel, then try to login from RoundCube Joomla, "An error occured while savings" never come up, i try this in my joomla website, and run without error anymore...perhaps this can solve your problem..cheers - (sorry for my english, i'm indonesian)
