doesn't seem to work for me 5 Years ago
Hey guys,

Your Joomla Start product looks awesome. I use joomla on a number of sites. Looks like a great way of installing things but I seem to get problems when attempting to install joomla through it.

The zip file that gets downloaded is downloaded as a apach.apache chowned file instead of admin12.admin12 which the joomla.start file is chowned as. It seems to sometimes uncompress the zip file but doesnt have any files in teh installation directory.

Any clues for things I should look for as to why the problems... In addition tho I believe some of teh trouble is related to the files not being chowned as my user.

-rwxrwxrwx 1 apache apache 2.7M Jan 30 17:18 Joomla_1.0.12-Stable-Full_Package.zip
-rw-r--r-- 1 admin12 admin12 193K Jan 29 08:48 Joomla.Start.php

Your help is much appreciated. Thanks very much.

Hi there! The problem with the ownership is generated from the fact that the php script is the one which downloads the zip archive, and on some hosts when doing this the owner and group can be different! However this won't cause any script errors, they will run without problems!

When uncompressing the zip file, do you see a directory in your web directory called archive_tmp ? That directory is created before the ftp transfer starts! If no file is transfered through ftp and the ftp path is correct something else might be wrong in the ftp configuration!

I would suggest you maybe try the "Direct mode" install for the Joomla archive and see how it goes! You should get the files extracted faster and without any errors or hangups!
Also, for the ftp transfer mode, do you get any errors in the end or a just blank screen?

http://www.mdangelo.com/joomla/installation/ gets a 403 error because it has nothing inside it...

While logged directly into the ssh account I get the following

-bash-3.00$ ls
-bash-3.00$

For the ftp mode for the most part it would point me to the same installation directory to launch joomlas install and basically I'd get the same 403 error as with direct mode this time...

In between tests I have completely removed the files installed and also the /joomla directory is chmodded 777

Anyway your awesome thanks for your help.

Could you delete that directory contents and try again with a fresh install from Joomla.Start.php, the problem might have come if you had any previous content there!

-bash-3.00$ rm -rf joomla
-bash-3.00$ mkdir joomla
-bash-3.00$ chmod 777 joomla

Used your online auto installer of the start script. So now everything is fresh the entire directory that I am installing into is now new.
http://www.mdangelo.com/joomla/Joomla.Start.php went through the dirrect installation:

Package succesfully downloaded to /home/virtual/site12/fst/var/www/html/joomla/Joomla_1.0.12-Stable-Full_Package.zip

Files succesfully copied to /home/virtual/site12/fst/var/www/html/joomla
Launch Joomla installer!
When you finished the Joomla installalation please click here to delete the install folder

Does my installing it on an ensim server change anything? The installation directory not working problem is experienced whether I chose the lastest stable or the second to the latest stable...

I am totally clueless now- I am just wondering if there is a problem happening when it unzips things?

I think the problem is that for some reason the script is unable to write in the directory it creates, all the subdirectories from inside that path, like administrator/ or includes/ have no files in them!

Not sure if it will help to see any errors, but try to use the attached Joomla.Start.php file!
