Yes that is what I did. I uploaded the Joomla_1.0.12-Stable-Full_Package.zip manually and selected it from the dropdown list. It is 2.7 MB.

Should Joomla.Start.php unzip this zip file?

Can you provide a url to your Joomla.Start.php location? As a note, is php.ini safe_mode Off on On in your site configuration? Ovidiu

I think the issue you have is from the open_basedir variable from your site php.ini, try and set that to no value, then try again! Ovidiu
