cannot be world writable?? 5 Years, 3 Months ago
Hello!

I tried to install joomla and couldn't make it work. So I've deleted it from the server and am starting again with JoomlaStart. I'm trying to install joomla to a jf folder and not in the root. I want to convert my files over to joomla before going live.

I've uploaded the joomlastart.php file to my server, jf folder. I get the following error when I go to the next step. The folder is set w/ 777 permissions.

...inkyvdc.org/httpdocs/jf/joomlastart.php cannot be world writable.

I received a similar message when I had installed joomla. What's happening and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help. DeAnne

I think the problem is from 777 permissions, try to replace the 777 permissions on that folder with 755 and then try again!

Let me know if you still have problems! Ovidiu

Dear Ovidiu,

I changed permissions to folder to 755 as you requested, and now get this message: Direct Access to this location is not allowed. Do you have any other ideas that I can try? Thanks, de

Weird, this problem is from Joomla, do you have SEF option enabled in your Joomla?

What is your site address? Have you tried to access the site on http://mydomain.com/index.php ?

The address is: http://www.inkyvdc.org/jf/joomlastart.php

The only things in the "jf" folder are the joomlastart files.

I didn't upload joomla to the folder; I thought that's what joomlastart would do for me...save the hour or so needed to upload it via FTP.

I want to load joomla into the "jf" folder and then convert the files over to joomla before making the joomla site live. The current site is active and used/viewed daily.

Thoughts? Thanks, de

Ah, you got the component instead if the JoomlaStart tool!

The component(joomlastart.php) is used inside an existing Joomla to provide an install service like this http://www.joomlaplug.com/joomla_install_online/

The link you need to access is http://www.inkyvdc.org/jf/Joomla.Start.php , that's the installer tool!

Let me know if you have anymore problems! Ovidiu
