From that error it seems that the script is unable to login to the IMAP server with the provided details, try and recheck the password?

okay, yea, i think this is the problem, from "automatically create a new RoundCube user when log-in the first time. " i had thought that it would automatically create the email address, but i have to do this beforehand, dont i? all this means is it will start showing up in my roundcube "manage users" isn't it?

or if it is possible, perhaps...do you have an example of what a good configuration will look like? i could probably copy it for the most part to get it to work.

Yes, you will need to first create that IMAP account, then try to use the email address as user and the pass you setup! Roundcube does not create IMAp accounts, for that you will need to use a server side provided tool from your hosting company!
