Couple of pre-sales questions 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Hi, I've looked at Joomla Cloner in the past, and have a website that needs to be backed up so that it can be restored locally, as well as vice versa (for development). I have used PHP scripts in the past that backup my website, as well as any MySQL databases, and FTP them to my local FTP server at home. The problem I've had restoring, comes into differences in PHP version. My webhost uses 4.4 and my local WAMP installation is 5. Does your component import regardless of the different versions?

Also, I have more than one site, however all sites are on the same account. For instance, company.com is my main domain, however, I have &quot;add-on domains&quot; hosted by the same account, and all the files are subdirectories. So company2.com is inside the structure like /home/user/public_html/company2, with a pointer for www.company2.com to that subdir. Would I need two registered copies of this component, one for each domain, www.company.com and a separate one for www.company2.com, or can I get away with a single instance copy? I did notice that it is capable of backing up any of the MySQL databases it finds in my single account, but it seems to only backup files from the root of that domain. If that's the case, would I rather get a copy registered to www.company.com so that it just gets everything?<br><br>Post edited by: Xaneth, at: 2007/08/27 09:50

Also, for the one year subscription, is JoomlaCloner only good for that year? Or is the subscription for support and upgrades?

The subscription only limits your upgrades and support options, you will still be able to use JoomlaCloner after that also!

Cool! What about the other questions:

  • Conversion between differing versions of MySQL?

  • Should I purchase for www.company.com to encompass the entire site?

  • Assuming JoomlaCloner is sold on a site by site basis

  • What about configuration files? Does it have settings to change the obvious files? (i.e. configuration.php)

    OK, here are some answers:

    1. conversions are possible with JoomlaCloner, on the Backup Generator screen you will see in the Database Options tab a Compatiblity drop down box

    2. by purchasing a license for JoomlaCloner you can use the component on all your sites, the component use is not limited on one site use

    3. JoomlaCloner is sold on an owner bases and not site bases

    4. on restore, JoomlaCloner will only adjust the configuration.php file, if you have any other components or scripts that require a special configuration you will need to adjust them manually

Let me know if you have further questions! Regards, Ovidiu

Right on, thanks for the answers, sounds like it covers all bases. I've done backup and restore via PHP script for my entire site and databases, but when restoring them locally, the config files were so messed up, my site was not too functional. Fudging around with them, I was able to get it &quot;half way&quot; up and running, so that really helps. Also ran into a lot of issues with differing versions of MySQL, so the compatibility mode you offer is super helpful. As soon as I can afford it, I'm buying a copy, thanks for all your hard work, very nice, very useful component!
