Support for Japanese UTF-8 Character set 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hope I am on the right forum for this.
My sites in Japan require Japanese character support (UTF-8). I have found that many backups of MySQL databases result in the replacement of ???? for the original Japanese characters. It goes without saying that such backups are not worth the amount of space it takes on the harddisk to store it.
Has anyone worked with MySQL Databases, Japanese UTF-8 and joomlaCloner in such an environment, and if so, successfully?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi there! Have you tried restoring the backups? When restoring, on the Joomla.Cloner.php restore screen there is an option called "Character set to file:", try and set that to utf-8 and see how that goes!

If you still have problems, i would also suggest to uncheck the second "Active" checkbox from your JoomlaCloner Configuration, the one near mysqldump line!

Let me know if you have anymore issues! Regards, Ovidiu

Actually, I was just inquiring if JoomlaCloner had any problems with Japanese characters (UTF-8).
I am going to go ahead and buy it and see! Hopefully there won't be any disappointments!
Cheers
Jim
