I have been wanting to have automated backups of my sites for a while and have been looking a few options.
Am i understanding this correctly.
I install joomla cloner ANDJcron to a website, and after setting the parameters in both, i will have a backup sent to me to an email addy of my choice.

Yes, you can have this, however there are some parameters which need to be tested, first you need to test if JCron Scheduler works on your website(you need to have either allow_url_fopen variable enabled or exec() function enabled in your php configuration), and second, while JoomlaCloner can sent any backup to your email address, it will depend on your email service provider if they will accept that email depending on the attachment size, for instance i think google mail does not accept mails with attachments bigger than 20M
