XCloner / databases corrupted / restoring in xampp 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
to test the restauration and to have a test Joomla on my pc, I have downloaded my first xCloner backupfile (tar), extracted it to my local xampp installation, imported the databases and modified the config.php. Everything went fine. But the two databases must somehow have been corrupted as my content is uncomplete. Here are two screenshots of my start page. The first showing the original correct one, the second showing the restored corrupted one. The difference is quite obvious. I used utf8_general_ci and mysql 323 creating the original databases and I have chosen the same settings importing the databases.

Sorry, the screenshots are obviously to big and I have to compress them. I'll do that later.

I presume you are having an encoding issue, have you tried setting the "Character set to the file" option to utf-8 from your XCloner.php screen when restoring?

I have to admit, that I didn't choose the clone way of xCloner but did it manually as I was used to do it before. I'll try that tomorrow when I am back to my personal computer again.

xcloner / restore script / restore screen 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I have justed transferred the restore script to my local xampp installation (C:\Programme\xampp\htdocs\joomla\administrator\components\com_xcloner\restore). But I couldn’t open the XCloner.php restore screen (http://localhost/joomla/xcloner.php). May be it’s because I only found two script files (TAR.php and Xcloner.php) in the restore folder and not three of them as it is said in the restoring description. Shouldn’t I be able as well to open the restoring screen on my original site? http://www.martinruthenberg.de/xcloner.php doesn’t work either.

The XCloner only has 2 restore script files, sorry for the confusion, and the XCloner.php file is the one you need to open in your browse!

If you copied the files in your web root account, then you should be able to access this link http://www.martinruthenberg.de/XCloner.php , otherwise the 404 error means the restore script was not copied there!

Thanks, Ovidiu,

I could open the restore screen now. The restore script files were not in the root path before.(In German we have the proverb, that sometimes we don't see the trees anymore because of the forrest.)But things look even worse now. There is the same problem concerning the content (having set utf8) as before and the look of the template has gone lost.
