I am realy stumped 7 Months, 1 Week ago
I have purchaced Jcloner a while ago now, I was all ways going to see if I could get it going but didn't have enough time.

So, I have a long weekend to my self, I now can give it my full attention.

I am a newbi but I have self taught myself around the Joomla componant and Mods for about year and a half.

Cloner has me really stumped.

I downloaded all the docs I could find I have bee searching the forums.

Still can't work it out.

I have added some question within the 'restore' instructions below.

How to restore a backup on different locations INFO!

Restoring your backups has never been more easier!
With the help of our cloning function from the View Backups screen
you will be able to move your Joomla backup anywhere on the Internet.

Here is what you have to do:

Step1 - move your backup to the restore host

- go into the JoomlaCloner 'View Backups' area
- after you have selected your backup click on the 'Clone it' button
- enter the ftp details of where you would like to Clone the backup
- after hitting submit the backup and the restore script will be transfered on the new host and you
will be given a url to access the next step based on the url you provided for the remote location

I got this far but it didn't work

- after you click the provided link you will be taken to the new location, sample url http://my_restore_site.com/Joomla.Cloner.php

Note: if this process fails for any reason, you need to do this:
1. Download the backup on your computer
2. Download the restore script, all 3 files from directory administrator/components/com_cloner/restore
3. Upload both backup and restore script to your restore location
4. Launch Joomla.Cloner.php in your browser and follow the restore screen as specified below

Step 2 - the Joomla.Cloner.php restore screen:

Joomla.Cloner.php - the restore script
- on this step you have in place the clone you made based on your Joomla site and the Restore script
- enter you new mysql details, this includes your new mysql hostname, user and pass, and a new database
different from the original one

Now this is where I get lost

- enter you new location Url and pass

Where do you enter Url and pass

- to restore the files you have 2 options:

- 1. restore the files through ftp, the script will simulate a ftp upload process on your server, this will
fix the permissions problem from step 2.

I did upload the files using FTP, not sure what or how the scripts work.

- 2. restore the files directly, this will unarchive the files on your server, will work fast but it might
result in some permission problems if you use your ftp a lot to make changes to the site

How do you restore the files directly?

- after you hit submit the script will attempt to move the files to the new path, directly or using ftp and
will install the database

I am lost

- if everything goes ok your new site clone is up and running on the new location

I would love to get this clone this happening.

Hi there! Did you manage to copy the restore script we provide and the backup archive to your restore location?

After this step, you simply need to open the restore script(Joomla.Cloner.php file) in your browser and fill in the requested restore details, have you got at this step?

Also, not sure if you had the chance to look at this manual http://www.joomlaplug.com/files/how_to_use_jcloner.pdf , see if it helps, it contains the full details to the backup and restore process including images

Restore script! now I think I know what that is.

I did find the three files in the restore folder

administrator/components/com_cloner/restore

I placed them in the same position on the new server.

This where I got stuck. how do you run the script, I tried looking for it in the Cloner component and tried to run ity from where it stands. I didn't have any luck.

Thank you for your help. It must be annoying to get such dumb questions.
