I think WAMP has already a utility called phpmyadmin(mysql manager from where you can create databases, and manage existing ones) that will help you with this, try accessing the http://localhost default page that wamp provides and from there click on the phpmyadmin link!

Also to empty a database, you need to select it in the phpmyadmin and then delete all the tables from it!

If you still can't manage it this way, JoomlaCloner has an option that will help you with this, in order to use it, you need to re-generate a backup on the original site, and click in the "Database Options" tab the option "ADD DROP syntax", before you start generating it! This way, when importing, the JoomlaCloner imported will delete the existing tables from your database and import the new ones!

Hey Ovidiu,

Thanks for that info. I was able to restore the configuration and database by using the "drop syntax" box like you suggested.

However, when I log into the administrator panel I'm unable to make changes to content. The "apply" and "save" buttons are inactive. I can make changes to configurations, installing/removing components/mambots etc., but I can't change anything in the content.

I don't know if it matters but I'm using the JCE editor.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

*Edit*
I just a reply you made to a different post a few months ago:

"Ok, the problem you have it's because of permissions! Having files already in place will create some writting problems with the direct mode restore! You don't need to have Joomla preinstalled, the JoomlaCloner will restore it from the generated clone!

I would suggest you try and restore the clone in a clean location as specified and see how it goes!"

So I think that may be my problem. I had Joomla installed before restoring the backup. So I had all the joomla files PLUS the backup archive PLUS the Restore files inside my Joomla folder. I'll try again and see what happens.

Post edited by: trankuility, at: 2007/01/06 04:28

Hi there! Have you tried to disable the JCE editor to see how that goes? This sounds to be a permission problem, have you tried to create New content to see if you are allowed that?

Ok, almost there!

I restored the backup in a clean folder using only the the backup archive and restore files. When I logged onto the site I was finally able to create and/or edit content. So my last issue is fixed. But now I have a different issue.

In all my content pages, wherever there is a paragraph break the following is inserted:

If I create a new page of content that snippet doesn't get inserted. It's only on the 100+ pages of content that was restored. I'm concerned that if I clean up all those pages, deleting that snippet, that when I backup and restore in the future the snippet will show up again so I'll have to go through and clean up every page every time I restore. That's not ideal since I plan to backup and restore every day.

Any ideas?

Hi there! Could you post here a screenshot of the error you have there? My presuming is that the problem is from the editor you have there, have you tried switching the editor to something else or to reinstall it?

Please also attach here the source code of the page with the problem if possible!

After I restored the backup and saw the weird error I tried uninstalling JCE and try using the default TinyMCE editor but the error was still there. I then reinstalled JCE and selected it as the main editor but that didn't fix the problem either.

In the attached you'll find the page source using the JCE editor. If you want to see the page source when using the TinyMCE editor just let me know.

In the next post you'll see the screenshot.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!
