How does it work? 2 Months ago
Looking for a backup system. Does this component work by FTPing all files and database offsite to a defined storage area or to a new dir within the website directory?

If the DB is on a different server is this a problem?

Hi there! JoomlaCloner will create a full copy of your site including files and database by creating a file archive on your server in a directory you can specify!

You can use a remote storage directory if you plan on using cron jobs, the backup archive can be transfered automatically to that location

The database can be on any server, as long as the backup script is able to access it!

Let me know if you have further questions! Ovidiu

So the security of this is down to the host backup systems. If something goes wrong with the folder containing the backup then there is no backup. Note that with our hosting there is no cron job facility and no restore for customers (they must do their own backups).

I am looking to be able to send the backup file offsite with perhaps a second option to an alternative address if there is no response to the primary (or just name two destinations for the backup).

Please advise. Thanks.

As i already specified, in order to be able to automatically create backups and to be able to transfer them to another host, you will need to have access to a cron manager, or else you will need to do that manually for each site!
