Are you using both "Active" checkboxes unchecked when "Manual backup" option is set to Yes? Try that and see how it goes although the backup should be fine! Ovidiu

I don't know which screen contains the "Active" you're talking about...
"Are you using both "Active" checkboxes unchecked when "Manual backup" option is set to Yes?"

OK...had a good backup. At restore, seemed to go well. Question now is under

ftp root path of where Joomla will be installed:

if you want it to put out to http://domain.com, what do you enter in the field? i entered / and my restore went to a newly created folder called http://domain.com/restore/archive_tmp. What should you enter there?

didn't see any changes to joomla configuration.php. can i just update it and then move the files to http://domain.com? These files are working within the http://nashvegashoops.com/restore/archive_tmp/ folder. I can nagivate the site fully from within this folder.

update: while waiting, i updated the configuration.php to point to the new domain, that screwed everything up. i'm so confused. i am trying to copy the files from one domain to a new domain with a new copy of the info in the old site's database. so, we will have two similar sites with their own databases for each domain.

I suggest to use the "Install files directly" option instead of the ftp option from the Joomla.Cloner.php screen

The configuration should be updated automatically if all goes properly!

ok. that did work to a point...but it keeps installing into /restore/ even though I have entered just domain/ in the install URL box. ???

to clarify, install directory is where it pulls the files from and install URL is where you want the files placed?

off to work, will check back in a few hours.

thanks!

The "Install dir:" field should be adjusted to point to the folder where you want the files to be restored, so you might want to strip from there the leading subdirectory restore/
